Lady Hurricane JV softball loses to WHS 18-14

The Wilmington High School reserve softball team was defeated by Williamsburg 18-14 last Thursday.
Wilmington trailed 10-4 after three innings and was down 12-7 after six. But Williamsburg scored six in the top of the seventh to go up 18-7 before Wilmington rallied with seven in the bottom of the inning to make it close.
Kaylee Tackett, who struck out five on the mound, went 4-for-5 with a triple and several runs batted in, coach Pete Brown said.
Gracy Thokey, Alix South and Nicole Gallion had three hits each. South had a double while Gallion had two doubles.
“This was a very good Williamsburg team and we fought hard the entire game,” Brown said. “The girls have improved tremendously this season and hopefully we can win our last two games to finish the season strong.”
On April 25, Wilmington defeated Hillsboro 26-13 after trailing 6-1 in the second. WHS scored 13 runs in the third to gain control.
Kelsey Sprowels, Jasmine Collins, Bella Gammell and Gallion had four hits each for WHS. Gallion had a pair of doubles. Hannah Gordon struck out eight on the mound for the Lady ’Cane.
On April 24, Wilmington played two games against Clinton-Massie, losing both games 17-1 and 20-7.
In the 20-7 loss, Hannah Gordon pitched three innings for Wilmington and struck out three. Grace Thokey had three singles. South, Gallion and Gammell had two hits each.
On April 21, Wilmington lost to Miami Trace 22-1.
On April 19, Wilmington defeated Hillsboro 28-6. Gordon struck out four and walked just two on the mound and had three hits and walked twice at the plate. South had two hits and walked two times while Mahogany Collins collected three hits.
On April 13, Wilmington lost to Little Miami. Brown said Tackett pitched well but the WHS defense did not play well behind her.
On April 12, Wilmington topped Chillicothe 9-1 with Tackett getting the win on the mound. She struck out six and walked two. At the plate, Tackett had a double and a triple. Emily Spendlove had two hits.
